A Sun Life Financial Inc. survey released today found that many Canadians don’t seem to be financially prepared for retirement. In fact, almost half of working Canadians (44 per cent) expect they’ll still be employed full-time at age 66.

But if your social status or power position has always come from your work, retirement may feel like a huge loss of identity and life-structure...

CBC's The Stats of Life did an interesting episode on retirement.
We meet a 72-year-old widow who placed ads seeking like-minded women to form an "intentional community"; an 82-year-old woman who wants to do even more volunteering despite her failing eyesight; and a couple in their 60s who have planned every aspect of their retirement have one more thing to do - talk to their children about their end of life plans.

You matter to me!
Seriously. When I say I am here for you, it comes straight from the heart. It’s exciting to know that little changes in your life can make you feel closer to relaxing into the retirement you deserve. 😍
But maybe you don’t know what you deserve? I know through experience that many feel overwhelmed by the thought of retiring. What does it mean? How do I do it? What changes do I make? You’re not alone.
Accountability. It can be a scary word.
What if you had a community around you who made it less scary? We all want to achieve the reality we know is right for us. Maybe it’s living in a home that doesn’t cause as much stress. Maybe it’s moving to live closer to children or grandchildren. Maybe it’s simple: you want to be kinder to yourself.
As social creatures, we have an extraordinary opportunity to surround ourselves with people who support us. And what if you asked those people to go one step further in that support? Maybe, just maybe, you could ask others to hold you accountable in fulfilling your dreams.
Are you familiar with the term ‘gig economy’ and the implications of the gig economy on those of us heading into retirement?
The term ‘gig economy’ refers to the work of people who are doing short-term contracts or freelancing rather than your typical “nine-to-five” long-term job. Or it can be as a side-hustle in addition to a “nine-to-five” job. Many companies and businesses now-a-days prefer to hire someone who does freelance or contract work instead of hiring someone for a full-time/permanent position.
Being the one who gives when it’s hard...
The realest and hardest thing about getting older is facing loss in a new way. Some of you are facing an even harder task: being the executor of someone’s will.
I know it’s a difficult thing to talk about, but when we work together, death and loss become a little bit more bearable. 💖
I’m curious about how many companies are aware of this…😲
According to Canada’s Urban Futures Institute, about 425,000 Boomers will retire by 2020 annually and some 9.8 million Canadian baby boomers are already approaching retirement.
Already a major issue, skilled talent shortages will continue to impede global growth and if not addressed, could have a significant impact on major economies by 2030, a study* by Korn Ferry (NYSE: KFY).
